There’s always something fun happening in Fairfax County, and the 4th of July is definitely no exception! From fireworks to picnics and parades, there’s a host of activities happening this Independence Day.
Check out some of the area’s top 2019 July 4th events and activities.
Independence Fireworks at Mount Vernon
When: June 28, 6pm – 9:45pm
Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon
What: Enjoy a dazzling display of fireworks and live music, take a Mansion tour, and even play some games on George Washington’s estate.
Workhouse Fireworks
When: June 29, 5pm – 10pm
Where: Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton
What: The region’s largest pre-July-4 fireworks show also features a Rizer Pavilion musical performance by the US Navy Band Sea Chanters.
4th of July Hometown Celebration & Parade
When: July 4, 8am – 1pm, 6pm – Dark
Where: Great Falls Village Center
What: A full day of celebrations, beginning with a 5K walk/run and blood drive, followed by the Little Patriot Parade, the Main Parade, and some Festivities, Food & Fun. At 6pm, the fun continues with some fun at Turner Farm Park—live music, games, contests, food trucks, and fireworks.
Fairfax Fourth of July Parade
When: July 4, 10am – 12pm
Where: 4100 Chain Bridge Road
What: The parade loops around Downtown Fairfax and features a host of parade essentials—marching bands, floats, little cars and big motorcycles, fire engines, and more. It’s followed by the Old-Fashioned Fireman’s Day.
The National Independence Day Parade
When: July 4, 11:45am – 2pm
Where: Downtown Washington, DC
What: Celebrate Independence Day with America’s biggest and best July 4th parade right in the capital city itself! The 1-mile parade route travels along Constitution Ave from 7th St to 17th St.
Herndon’s 4th of July Celebration
When: July 4, 6:30pm
Where: Herndon Community Center
What: Celebrate the holiday with a day of arts and crafts, live music, games, bingo, food, dessert, and more. The event closes with a fireworks finale at 9:30.
4th of July Fireworks on the National Mall
When: July 4, 9pm
Where: The National Mall, DC
What: Close out a great day of celebration with the most spectacular fireworks show in America. The fireworks are launched over the Potomac and are actually visible from many locations throughout DC and Northern Virginia.
